Chelmsford Cathedral

The second smallest cathedral in England, it regularly shocks visitors with its inner splendor hidden from its humble outside. Open daily, free access and disabled friendly the cathedral is a must stop for the Chelmsford visitor.

Chelmsford Museum

Showcasing the history of Chelmsford, the museum offers a display of local items of special interest. There are also temporary exhibitions which change up to 5 times a year. The museum is a short walk from the high street and is open 10 – 5 Monday to Saturday and Sundays 2 – 5. Please note the museum has reduced opening times in the winter (1-4)  Admission is free.

Hylands house

Chelmsford council bought the house in 1966 after the death of the last private owner. The house was bought in a sad state of repair, damaged though fire and vandalism, the house is now restored back to its former glory. There is a café, new visitor centre, gift shop, artist studios and guided tours are available.

Situated at the police head quarters in Springfield, the Essex Police museum displays the history of local policing from as far back as 1840.

Tropical Wings World of Wildlife

Great family day out with animals from all over the word, inc. one of the largest butterfly houses in the world. Daily interactive presentations take place educating you about wildlife up close and personally. There is a tea room, gift shop, children’s play area and farm shop.
